DARKNESS
Everyone has a shadow.
The parts of ourselves we don’t talk about. The impulses we’ve spent years trying to outrun. The pain we buried because facing it felt too dangerous. We don’t eliminate these things by ignoring them.
We hand them the wheel.
This drawing is about becoming whole. Light and shadow. Instinct and wisdom. Power and restraint. Not the victory of one over the other, but their integration into something greater.
For years I tried to outrun my own shadow. Drugs and alcohol were the tools I used to avoid the parts of myself I didn’t know how to face. Sobriety didn’t simply remove the substances. It removed the escape. What remained was everything I had spent years running from. Eventually I discovered something I never expected.
Facing it was the only path to freedom.
Mastery is not domination. It is relationship. It begins the moment we stop asking how to destroy our darkness and start asking what it has been trying to teach us all along.
The greatest battles are rarely fought with the world. They are fought within ourselves.
Freedom begins the moment we stop running.
• The courage to face yourself honestly—the beginning of every genuine transformation.
• Freedom through integration rather than avoidance. Wholeness is not the absence of darkness, but the presence of light within it.
• A quiet reminder that the strongest people aren’t those without shadows, but those who have learned to walk beside them.
